The official death of Internet Explorer 6 was penciled in by Microsoft as the 13th July 2010 and we admit, we weren't sad to see the closing date looming. However, Microsoft threw a spanner in the proverbial works and subsequently extended the support date for this internet old timer until 2014. We at Razor Smile, believe it's time this vintage O.A.P took advantage of his long invested pension, therefore we are announcing that we no longer support IE6 in any of our projects.
Far from us penalising IE6 users we have came to this conclusion for very practicle reasons...
IE 6 was born back in 2001 and was an impressive browser in its day and still has a minority place on the internet mainly in an intranet role. However the way we web designers create our websites has been dictated to by the prolonged support of this tired browser. IE 6 has its limitations which have to be worked around at an extra expense to you, the client. The time and cost involved for what is seen as a minor percentage of users no longer appears valid in today's market.
By all accounts and from our understanding even the Microsoft Corporation wants you to upgrade from IE6 which isn’t the first time Microsoft has asked people to voluntarily upgrade, but it is the first time that it’s been in response to an exploit or security vulnerability.
So, as our last IE6 laden laptop goes to the great computing heaven in the sky, we bid farewell to IE6, our favourite thorn in the side.
